Day 10: A Shelf Addition

On Monday we put some extra mounted hooks from our laundry room up on the wall in our boys shared bedroom.  It acts as a mini drop zone in their room and even better, it helped to clear up a big pile of junk.

We went from this:

To this:

The basket below the hooks holds books but it looked a bit like an afterthought.  The boys have a nightstand in between their two beds with an open space just begging for a basket.  I decided to move the books to that spot (but still need to come up with a basket), and instead put another unused item to better use under the hooks!

We used to have this low shelf next to back door, but have since stopped using it.  I'm embarrassed to say that it's been hanging out behind one of the couches in our family room for months now.

I also found some leftover shelf liner from lining the benches in our breakfast nook.  It wasn't wide enough, so it took a bit of cutting and piecing together.

It was worth the few minutes of tedious work because it gave us some interest and protection on the top of the shelf.  We're using the top for extra shoes and toys....

The middle has dress up masks and the bottom is a make-shift garage for the boys' bigger/chunkier cars.
I still need to find another liner for the middle shelf, but for now this once forgotten shelf is back in business!

And now a drum roll for the (mostly) final before and after......

 Much better :)

  4. I have this exact shelf, forgotten in the garage. I will totally use liner and use it in the same way, thanks for the inspiration!

Not grinning over that either. We love a good open discussion but please save anything that's not constructive for someplace else.
